What happens if you don’t replace breast implants?

Eventually, the implant wears out because they’re only made to last 10-15 years. Your implant may develop leaks as it ages or even rupture. If your saline implant leaks or ruptures, your breast will deflate quickly, and your body will absorb the saline.

Silicone implants leak more slowly, and because your body does not absorb the gel, it accumulates in the surrounding tissues. Leaks can cause the scar tissue around your implant to harden, causing more discomfort in the area.
