When should I be worried about an abscess?

Symptoms of an abscess in your mouth may start as a toothache. You may feel a sharp or throbbing pain in your tooth that radiates out to your jaw or ear. The pain may be constant or only when you’re chewing. Your tooth may feel loose, and your gums and jaw can become swollen and appear red.

You may experience more sensitivity to foods and drinks. If the infection spreads, you may also have a fever or feel unwell. If you experience any of these symptoms, contact your health provider for treatment.
